The Dixie Melody Boys

Legend. Not many people truly live up that name but Ed O'Neal is one of those rare people. Few people have impacted Gospel music as much as he has. We are honored to travel with him, learn from him and to call him our friend. Ed began singing in 1958 with the Gospel Harmony Boys and then went onto sing with another group called the Sernaders. Ed was called to join the Dixie Melody Boys around 1963. He would son take over management and the Ed O'Neal era had begun. Through the years he has helped to introduce many of Gospel music's most telented singers including McCray Dove, Rodney Griffen, Harold Reed and many others. His smooth bass voice has made him one of the most popular singers in history. Southern Gospel honored him in 2000 with its highest honor, The Marvin Norcross Award. He was again honored in 2004 with induction into the Southern Gospel Hall of Fame.
Many people know that Ed is an avid golfer and loves to play anywhere we can while out on the road. We hate to admit this but he usually beats all the guys in the group. When not on the gold course, Ed is usually watching Fox News.
Ed lives in Kinston, NC with his wife of fifty-five years, Joy O'Neal.
