Dixie Melody Boys Honored At Fan Awards

The Southern Gospel Music Fan Awards were held May 3, 2012 in Pigeon Forge. The Dixie Melody Boys were nominated in 7 Top 5 categories including Favorite Quartet, Favorite Bass, Favorite Tenor, Favorite Lead, Favorite Album, Favorite Song and Living Legend Award. The Dixie Melody Boys won Favorite Quartet and Ed O'Neal won for Favorite Bass Singer. "We are humbled by this award. We want to thank each and every friend that voted for us." said Steven Cooper.

Matt Felts Releases Civil War Album

Dixie Melody Boys tenor Matt Felts has released a new album, Angels On The Battlefield, that highlights the role faith played during the Civil War. The album contains Civil War era hymns and gripping narrations that take the listener on the battlefield with soldiers of both the North and the South. "This has been four years in the making and I am thrilled with the result." said Matt. The album comes out during the 150th Anniversary of America's epic war. Joing Matt on this collectors album are Gospel legends Johnny Minick and Mike Allen along with Aaron Minick. It also boats the A-list of Nashvilles musicians, many of whom played on the soundtracks to the motion pictures Gettysburg and Gods And Generals. Dixie Melody Boys Recieve 7 Top 5 Nominations

The fans of Gospel music had the chance to vote for the favorite artists during the month of January. The Dixie Melody Boys solidifyed their place as one of the premier groups in Gospel music with 7 Top 5 nominations. They were nominated in the following categories:

Rayburn Lane Returns To Dixie Melody Boys

     

     The Dixie Melody Boys are excited to announce that Rayburn Lane has returned to the Dixie Melody Boys. Rayburn was the bus driver for the DMB's for many years before leaving to drive for the Dove Brothers. "I am sad that my longtime friend Rayburn is leaving. He is leaving for a good reason. Ed O'Neal needs a driver and he taught Rayburn to drive. He is a Dixie Melody Boy again but if you look real close you will still see some wings on his shoulders " said McCray Dove. 
     Rayburn is one of the best drivers in Gospel music and beloved by many fans across the country. "We are excited to have Rayburn back as a Dixie Melody Boy. He is like a son to Ed so it's a blessing to have him on our bus,"stated Matt Felts. Rayburn has already started with the group.

Dixie Melody Boys Reunion At NQC Moment Of Week



Louisville: At this years National Quartet Convention, the rich history of the Dixie Melody Boys was honored at the Singing News Fan Awards Straw Poll. Over 35 former members were on stage together including McCray Dove, Rodney Griffen, Eric Ollis, Bryan Walker, Jonathn Price, Dustin Sweatman, Kent Humphrey, Jerry Kelso and Dan Keeton. The tribute started off with a choir of alumni singing the groups all time most popular song "Antioch Church House Choir". Dustin Sweatman and Jamie Caldwell stepped out to sing the verses on this song. "Good Ole Boys" from the DMB band era was next as Kent Humphrey and Allen O'Neal sang this classic hit song. The atmosphere was electric as McCray Dove, Nathan Widener, Harold Reed and Ed O'Neal with Rodney Griffen, Eric Ollis and Olan Witt in the band performed "Ride That Glory Cloud". The crowd was overwhelmed. David Staton from Song Garden Music Group came out and talked about the huge impact Ed O'Neal and the Dixie Melody Boys have had on Gospel music. He read a letter from Tony Brown. Tony was the first piano player for the group. He later went on to play for Elvis and also served as Preseident of MCA Records. He discovered Rebe McEntire, George Strait, Brooks and Dunn just to name a few. Staton then presented the group an award for their fifty years in Gospel music. Ed O'Neal delivered a heartfelt speach that left everyone in the building in tears. Current member Matt Felts and former member Rodney Griffen took the verses on "The Call Is Still The Same", the title song on the new album. The crowd was brought to their feet as the song wrapped up the historic event. Due to overwhelming response, the events from the reunion will be made into a special edition video. A release date will be announced soon.

Ed O'Neal Honored By The Orginal Couriers

Lebanon, Pennsylvania: On Sunday, September 4th, Ed O'Neal was honored for fifty years in Gospel music by the Original Couriers. The Dixie Melody Boys were singing with the group for Garden Spot Promotions. O'Neal was on stage with his group when the Couriers walked on stage to present him with a beautiful wooden plaque engraved with a special message from them.

50th Anniversary Album Released

The much anticpated album, The Call Is Still The Same debuted last weeek in Lebanon, Pa. The project celebrates the Dixie Melody Boys rich tradition and their fifty years in Gospel music. Producer David Staton said about the new project, "It is the best album I have ever produced. I am very proud of it." The album debuts the new sound of the legendary group. Joining them on the album are former members Ernie Haase, Rodney Griffen, McCray Dove, Devin McGlamery, Allen O'Neal, Harold Reed, Kent Humphries and also appearances by Jason Crabb and Ben Speer. The project is available now through the Dixie Melody Boys online store, select retailers and at their live appearances.

Dixie Melody Boys Featured On Christian Voice

The Dixie Melody Boys were featured on the cover of this months issue of The Christian Voice. The national magazine is one of Christian music's top magazines with features, news and concert information on Chrstian artists from numerous genres of Gospel music. This special issue is the 5th anniversary issue for the Christian Voice Magazine. It marks the second time the Dixie Melody Boys have appeared on the cover, the other being the very first issue.  The Dixie Melody Boys carry the Christian Voice at all concerts. The Singing News, the Offcial Printed Voice Of Southern Gospel, honored the Dixie Melody Boys by featuring them on the cover of the July issue of the magazine. The article paid tribute to the rich legacy of the lengendary group. "It is a huge honor and we appreciate all that the Singing News does for Gospel music". said Matt Felts, tenor for the DMB's. Dixie Melody Boys Inducted Into Hall Of Fame

On January 1st, the Dixie Melody Boys were informed that they are in the 2011 class of inductees for the Christian Music Hall of Fame. The Christian Music Hall Of Fame honors artists from all genres of Christian music. The 2011 class included DeGarmo and Key, Wayne Watson, Susie Luchsinger, Nicole C Mullen, Take 6, the Dixie Melody Boys and Jeoffrey Benward. The induction ceremony is scheduled for November 5th. More details will be announced.
